Sunny Golf Holidays

Sunny golf holidays with guaranteed good weather and great courses. Blue skies, warm fairways and nothing to worry about.

Why Book a Golf Holiday in the Sun?

Sometimes you just want a guarantee. You want to know that when you step off the plane, the sun is going to be shining and you’re going to be playing golf in shorts and a polo shirt. A sunny golf holiday is about getting away to somewhere you can rely on the weather, where the courses are in great shape and the days are long enough to enjoy everything a golf trip should be. No rain jackets, no temporary greens, no checking the forecast every five minutes. Just sunshine and golf.

For British golfers, reliable sunshine isn’t just a nice bonus. It changes the whole experience. You play better when you’re warm and relaxed, the courses look and play at their best in dry conditions, and the time between rounds is actually enjoyable rather than something you endure in a hotel lobby waiting for the rain to pass. A sunny golf holiday turns the whole trip into something you look forward to for months and talk about for years, and that’s the difference between a golf trip and a proper golf holiday.

It doesn’t have to be midsummer either. Plenty of destinations offer reliable sunshine for eight, nine or even twelve months of the year. Whether you’re booking in April or October, December or July, there’s always somewhere with blue skies and warm temperatures waiting for you. The key is matching the right destination to the right time of year, and that’s something our team does every day.

Where to Find the Sunshine

Some destinations just deliver. The Canary Islands are about as close to a sure thing as you’ll find. Tenerife and Gran Canaria enjoy warm, sunny weather virtually all year round, with temperatures rarely dropping below 20 degrees even in the depths of winter. It’s one of the reasons the islands are so popular with golfers from across Europe.

The Algarve is another reliable option, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year and a climate that suits golf from early spring right through to late autumn. Even in winter it stays mild and bright more often than not. Spain’s Costa del Sol lives up to its name, particularly from March to November, and the Canary and Balearic Islands extend the sunny season even further.

Picking the Right Destination for Your Dates

The best sunny golf holiday is the one where the weather matches your travel window. If you’re going in November through February, the Canary Islands, Morocco and the UAE are your safest bets. From March to May and September to November, the Algarve, Spain and Turkey all come into play with warm, settled conditions. In the peak summer months, the Mediterranean is at its hottest, which is great if you like the heat but worth thinking about if you’d prefer something more moderate. The Canary Islands are actually slightly cooler in summer than mainland Spain, which makes them a comfortable option year round. Our team can match your dates to the destination that gives you the best combination of sunshine, course quality and value.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Canary Islands and Dubai are the two most consistently sunny options. The Canaries enjoy warm, dry weather virtually all year, while Dubai offers guaranteed sunshine with barely any rainfall. Morocco’s Agadir is another excellent choice for year round sun. For European destinations on the mainland, the Algarve and Costa del Sol have the highest sunshine hours, particularly from April through October. We can advise on the most reliable option based on when you’re planning to travel.

Short breaks work brilliantly. A three or four night trip with two or three rounds is enough to get some proper sunshine and good golf without taking too much time off. The Canary Islands, Algarve, Costa del Sol and Morocco are all well suited to shorter trips because of the manageable flight times and short airport transfers. For destinations further afield like Dubai, a longer trip tends to make more sense given the travel time, but even there a five night break can work well.

For most golfers, yes. There’s nothing worse than spending money on a golf trip and then losing a day or two to bad weather. Destinations with the most reliable sunshine tend to cost a little more during the winter months when demand is higher, but the trade off is that you’re virtually guaranteed to play every round you’ve booked. In the shoulder and summer months, many sunny destinations are actually very competitively priced, so you can get the weather and the value without choosing between them.

Light, breathable golf clothing is the main thing. Most golfers pack a couple of polo shirts, lightweight trousers or shorts and a decent pair of golf shoes. A good sun hat and high factor sun cream are essential, especially in the hotter destinations. It’s worth throwing in a light jumper or gilet for early morning tee times, as even in sunny destinations the first hour can be fresh before the sun gets going. Don’t forget sunglasses with decent UV protection either, as you’ll be outdoors for four or five hours at a stretch.
