São Rafael Suites is a modern, all-suite resort set on the quieter western edge of Albufeira, making it a strong base for golfers who want space, comfort, and easy access to several of the Algarve’s better-value championship courses. The hotel has a contemporary, low-rise layout with a relaxed feel, centred around landscaped gardens and outdoor pools rather than a busy resort core.

Golf here is focused on the nearby NAU courses rather than a course on the doorstep. Salgados Golf Course is the closest, offering a flat, links-style layout with water in play on many holes and a real emphasis on accuracy. A little further inland, NAU Morgado and Álamos provide a contrasting experience, Morgado is the more open and forgiving of the two, while Álamos is tighter, more technical, and rewards controlled ball striking. Together, they give good variety across a short stay.

Back at the hotel, accommodation is generous, with spacious suites, separate living areas, and balconies that suit longer golf breaks or groups sharing. Dining is straightforward and reliable, with buffet meals, occasional themed nights, and relaxed bars for post-round drinks rather than fine dining. Key Information

Course conditions are typically excellent, especially from spring through autumn. Fairways are firm, greens run true, and the layout rewards smart course management. The atmosphere is calm and organised, with efficient service and straightforward tee-time booking.

There’s one main course on site, but several high-quality alternatives sit within a 10–20 minute drive, making it ideal for a multi-course golf break. The resort itself feels relaxed and international rather than golf-only, which suits groups mixing golf with downtime.

This year it’s was time to try Portugal...

This year it’s was time to try Portugal. What a fantastic trip we had, it was seamless from start to finish. A great hotel, lovely food and the service was second to none. The courses were amazing. All in all another fantastic golf tour. Now we need to decide on the venue for next year with the added bonus of knowing Phil will sort us out wherever we choose.
