Golf Breaks in Mallorca
Mallorca delivers the kind of golf holiday that’s genuinely hard to fault. Dramatic mountain backdrops, pristine Mediterranean coastlines and a clutch of courses that would hold their own anywhere in Europe. Add in the food, the weather and the sheer ease of getting here, and it’s little wonder golfers keep coming back.
Mallorca sits at the heart of the western Mediterranean and has spent the last two decades quietly building one of the Balearics’ most impressive golf offerings. The island divides neatly into several distinct areas, each with its own character. The southwest, particularly around Palma and Andratx, holds the greatest concentration of courses and tends to attract golfers who want everything within easy reach. The northeast, around Alcúdia and the Cap de Formentor, is wilder and more rugged, appealing to those after a quieter base with stunning scenery.
Accommodation ranges from boutique fincas tucked into the Tramuntana foothills to five-star resort hotels directly on the coast. There’s genuinely something here for every budget, whether you’re organising a serious golf trip for single handicappers or a more relaxed mixed group where the 19th hole matters just as much as the first tee.
Palma de Mallorca Airport is one of Europe’s busiest summer hubs, with direct flights operating year-round from London Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted and Manchester, plus numerous regional UK airports. Flight times sit comfortably around two hours and fifteen minutes. Spanish mainland travellers can reach the island by ferry from Barcelona or Valencia, making it a practical choice for European golfers driving into the trip as well.

Best Golf Holiday Destinations in Mallorca
Mallorca packs a surprising amount of variety into a single island. Whether you’re after a full golf resort experience with everything on site, a self-catering villa base to explore different courses across the week, or a city hotel in Palma with easy access to multiple layouts, the packages available reflect that range. Groups of friends looking for a classic lads’ golf trip will find the southwest caters brilliantly to their needs. Couples wanting something more refined might gravitate towards boutique properties in the north or west. The island is compact enough that driving between courses is rarely more than forty minutes, which gives real flexibility when building an itinerary. Handicap requirements vary by course, so it’s worth checking before booking if your group includes higher handicap players.
Beyond the golf, Mallorca offers a richness that few Mediterranean islands can match. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides a dramatic backdrop that makes even an average round feel like a proper occasion. Villages like Valldemossa and Deià sit perched above the western coastline and are worth at least one afternoon off the course. The food scene has moved well beyond the tourist strip, with a strong tradition of Mallorcan cooking, excellent local wines and a growing number of restaurants earning serious culinary attention.
For mixed groups or families travelling together, the island offers beaches, water sports, cycling and cultural attractions in Palma’s old town that keep non-golfers perfectly happy. The nightlife is there if you want it, particularly around Magaluf and Palma itself, but the island has plenty of quieter corners for those after something more relaxed.
Weather-wise, Mallorca is reliably warm from April through to October, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 30 degrees. Even in winter the island rarely turns cold enough to close courses, making it a genuinely year-round destination for travelling golfers from the UK and northern Europe.

Top 10 Golf Courses in Mallorca
From championship layouts to hidden gems, these are the courses every golfer should have on their list when planning a golf holiday in Mallorca.
Consistently ranked as the #1 course in Europe by various publications, Alcanada is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. masterpiece. It sits right on the edge of the sea, offering stunning views of the Alcanada lighthouse and the Bay of Alcudia from almost every hole. For the perfect stay, the Inmood Aucanada is located just 1km away, offering a fresh, modern wellness-focused retreat with panoramic Mediterranean views that mirror those of the course.
As part of the prestigious Arabella Golf group, Son Muntaner is the island’s premier tournament venue, known for its wide fairways and the “Na Capitana”—the oldest olive tree on the island (over 1,000 years old). It offers a world-class practice facility and lightning-fast greens. You should stay at the Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel, which is nestled right between the resort’s courses and provides a dedicated “golf desk” to handle all your logistics.
This is arguably the most challenging and dramatic course on the island, famous for its narrow fairways, steep elevation changes, and the “Green Monster”—the longest par-5 in Spain at 609 meters. To recover from the challenge, stay at the Steigenberger Hotel and Resort Camp de Mar, which is located directly on the course and offers spectacular views of the 18th green and the nearby bay.
Pula is a historic estate that was redesigned by José María Olazábal to meet international tournament standards, having hosted the PGA European Tour many times. It has a rustic, authentic Mallorcan feel with very demanding greens. You must stay at the Pula Golf Resort Hotel, a converted 1581 manor house where the suites are located right on the course, offering a seamless “stay and play” experience.
Located in the northeast, Canyamel is known for its natural beauty and frequent visits from Mediterranean tortoises on the fairways. The greens are exceptionally fast and the layout is varied, featuring both flat and hilly sections. For a truly unique stay, the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is a nearby “mountain village” style resort that offers some of the best culinary and spa experiences on the island.
Often referred to as the “Augusta of Mallorca,” Son Gual is a private, family-run estate that prides itself on immaculate conditioning and a championship-level challenge. Its expansive bunkering and large water hazards make it a serious test for any golfer. Since it’s located just outside Palma, staying at the Es Princep in the city’s old town allows you to balance elite golf with high-end urban luxury and a world-class rooftop terrace.
Formerly known as Golf Poniente, this course underwent a massive renovation and is now one of the most stylish and sought-after spots on the island. It features beautiful pine-lined fairways and a distinctive “cool” vibe in the clubhouse. For a nearby stay, the Pure Salt Port Adriano offers an adults-only, luxury experience overlooking the super-yacht marina, just a short drive from the first tee.
Opened in 1964, Son Vida is the oldest course on the island and a true legend that has hosted the European Tour twice. It is a classic parkland layout with a technical back nine that weaves through the luxury villas of the Son Vida estate. The definitive place to stay is the Castillo Hotel Son Vida, a 13th-century castle turned luxury hotel that overlooks the course and offers the most prestigious address in Mallorca.
A Nicklaus Design course, Puntiró is built on a large estate where the natural vegetation (pines, wild olives, and carobs) has been meticulously preserved. It is a strategic course that rewards accuracy over power. A great lodging partner is the Zafiro Palace Palmanova, a 5-star all-suite hotel that offers a high level of luxury and is well-positioned for exploring both the Palma courses and the southwest coast.
The youngest of the Arabella courses, Son Quint is the most modern and open, offering spectacular views of Palma’s Cathedral from several holes. It is a more relaxed, “resort-style” round compared to its neighbors. For a central stay that makes evening dining in Palma easy, the Nixe Palace Hotel is a beachfront classic located just 10 minutes from the course, blending sea views with quick golf access.
Best time to play golf in Mallorca
Spring and autumn are widely considered the sweet spots for a golf trip to Mallorca. April, May, September and October offer daytime temperatures between 18 and 26 degrees, gentle breezes and courses that are in excellent condition after winter maintenance or before the summer rush. You’ll also find more availability and better pricing during these shoulder months. Summer, from late June through August, brings intense heat with temperatures regularly climbing above 32 degrees, which makes early morning tee times essential and afternoon golf pretty uncomfortable by Spanish standards. July and August are peak season across the island, so course fees and accommodation prices reflect that.
Rain is more likely in January and February, but rarely persistent enough to ruin a trip. December and March can actually be quite lovely on the island, quiet and pleasant with a freshness in the air that summer visitors never get to experience.

Son Gual, situated just outside Palma, is frequently cited as the island’s finest layout, a mature course with outstanding views and genuine strategic challenge across its eighteen holes. Golf de Andratx in the southwest offers dramatic mountain and sea views and is considered one of the most scenic rounds anywhere in the Mediterranean.
Several of Mallorca’s better courses do require golfers to show a valid handicap certificate, particularly at more prestigious venues. Son Gual and Golf de Andratx both have requirements in place. The standard requirement at many clubs is a handicap of 28 for men and 36 for women, though this varies. It’s always worth checking with individual courses before you travel.
April, May, September and October represent the ideal window. The temperatures are comfortable for a full day on the course, typically 18 to 26 degrees, the courses are in excellent condition and you’ll generally find better rates than in high summer.
Very easy. Palma de Mallorca Airport receives direct flights from a wide range of UK airports throughout the year, with Jet2, easyJet, TUI, Ryanair and British Airways all operating routes. Flight times from London airports are around two hours and fifteen minutes, with slightly longer flights from northern UK airports.
Golf Holiday Facts
Golf tourism contributes significantly to the Balearic economy year-round
Golf visitors to the Balearic Islands, of which Mallorca accounts for the majority, are estimated to generate substantially higher daily spending than standard beach tourists, with figures suggesting golf travellers spend approximately 30 to 40 percent more per day on accommodation, food and leisure activities.(1)
Mallorca welcomes over 13 million visitors annually, with northern European golfers among the most consistent returning segments
The island’s overall visitor numbers place it among the busiest single island destinations in Europe. UK travellers remain one of the largest national groups, alongside German and Scandinavian visitors, many of whom visit specifically for golf.(2)
The golf season in Mallorca runs effectively for twelve months
Unlike many northern European golf destinations, courses in Mallorca remain open and playable throughout the year. Winter closure rates are negligible, and even during the wettest months of January and February, play is disrupted for only short periods.(3)
