Tangier is not your conventional golf destination; its eccentricity is its appeal.The city is fascinating: one of the most cosmopolitan places in North Africa, shaped by centuries of European, Arab, and African influences. The medina, the souk, the beachfront restaurants, the art museums, and a food scene blending Moroccan, Spanish, and Mediterranean traditions make it a compelling base for a few days on either side of the golf, or for groups where not everyone is on the course. A few honest things worth knowing. Check-in can run slowly during busy summer periods. The hotel provides only one complimentary bottle of water on arrival, which some guests on longer stays have found frustrating. And if a quiet night is a priority, ask specifically for a room away from the lift and on the pool-facing side rather than the floors closest to the rooftop bar.

The Royal Country Club de Tanger, 10 minutes by road, anchors the golf case firmly. Founded in 1914 and declared a National Heritage Site in 2018, it is the oldest golf club in Morocco, the first in the entire Mediterranean basin, and the second oldest in Africa. Originally designed by British architects Cotton and Pennink, it was comprehensively renovated by Peter Harradine in 2001, who changed the direction of a quarter of the holes in the process. Playing through century-old cypress, pine, and eucalyptus trees in the foothills of the Rif Mountains, with views of Tangier’s rooftops and the Strait of Gibraltar from the 5th green, is an experience that goes well beyond the average resort round.
