Golf Breaks in Cyprus

Cyprus is quickly becoming one of the Mediterranean’s best kept golfing secrets. You’ll find quality championship courses designed by legends like Nick Faldo and Cabell Robinson, complemented by sunshine that stretches across nearly every month of the year and a welcoming culture that makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive.

The island offers everything from luxurious five star beach resorts in Paphos and Limassol to boutique hotels tucked into the Troodos Mountains, with accommodation options that suit everyone from couples seeking romantic getaways to groups of friends planning their annual golf trip. Paphos on the southwest coast has established itself as the island’s golf hub, home to three exceptional courses within easy reach of the harbour and old town, while Limassol presents a sophisticated alternative with stunning coastal routes and mountain backdrops.

Larnaca, though quieter on the golf front, serves as a convenient gateway with its international airport offering direct flights from most major UK cities in under five hours, and you’ll also find Paphos Airport serving the western resorts with similar ease. The compactness of Cyprus means you’re never more than an hour’s drive from your next tee time, making it ideal for golfers who want variety without the hassle of constant transfers. It’s equally appealing whether you’re a serious golfer chasing winter practice rounds, a family looking to mix golf with beach time and historical sites, or simply someone who appreciates excellent food, good wine, and the kind of weather that lets you play in a polo shirt when it’s freezing back home.

Best Golf Holiday Destinations in Cyrpus

The courses here punch well above their weight for such a small island. Elea Golf Club stands out as a Nick Faldo masterpiece that challenges even single figure handicappers, while Aphrodite Hills has hosted European Tour events and offers those dramatic elevated tees that make for unforgettable photos and equally unforgettable approach shots.

What keeps golfers coming back isn’t just the quality of the fairways, though that’s certainly part of it. There’s something about teeing off with views of the Mediterranean stretching endlessly before you, knowing that later you’ll sit down to fresh grilled halloumi and a cold Keo beer at a taverna where the owner remembers your name from last year. The Cypriot landscape shifts beautifully from rugged coastline to rolling vineyards and pine covered mountains, giving each course its own distinct character. Weather wise, you’re looking at over 300 days of sunshine annually, with winter temperatures rarely dropping below 15 degrees and summer highs that make early morning tee times sensible rather than optional.

Families appreciate that Cyprus isn’t just about golf. The island’s rich history means you can explore ancient mosaics at Paphos Archaeological Park, Byzantine churches in the Troodos, or simply spend lazy afternoons at Blue Flag beaches while non golfing partners and kids enjoy the kind of crystal clear water that makes the Caribbean jealous. There’s genuine culture here too, not the manufactured resort version, and you’ll find it in the mountain villages where time seems to move differently and the coffee is always strong.

Top 10 Golf Courses in Cyprus

From championship layouts to hidden gems, these are the courses every golfer should have on their list when planning a golf holiday in Cyprus.

The island’s flagship course, this Cabell B. Robinson design is famous for its dramatic 7th hole, where you must carry a deep canyon. It became the first course in Cyprus to be awarded PGA National status and hosted the European Tour. For a true five-star experience, stay on-site at the Aphrodite Hills Hotel by Atlantica, which overlooks the course and the Mediterranean, offering luxury suites with swim-up pools and an award-winning spa.

Set in the grounds of a 12th-century monastery, Minthis offers a unique, elevated mountain golf experience with a cooler microclimate. It features the only “island green” in Cyprus on the par-3 15th. You should stay on-property at the Minthis Resort, where modern, Scandinavian-style luxury suites are tucked into the hills, providing floor-to-ceiling glass walls that immerse you in the quiet nature of the Troodos foothills.

The newest addition to the island (fully opening in 2025/2026), Limassol Greens is a Cabell Robinson design located next to the Lady’s Mile beach. It features a unique “links-style” feel with sandy dunes and feature ponds. To be close to the new action, stay at the City of Dreams Mediterranean, Europe’s first integrated resort and casino, which offers unparalleled glitz, Michelin-quality dining, and a massive pool complex right on the doorstep of the new course.

While primarily known for its main layout, the Secret Valley resort complex often features seasonal “executive” loops or expanded floodlit play areas. Since it shares the same stunning valley, staying at the Elysium Hotel in Paphos is highly recommended; this palatial 5-star hotel offers a sense of Byzantine history and provides excellent transfer packages to all the major Kouklia-area courses.

Located within the British Sovereign Base Area, this course is open to visitors by prior arrangement and offers a unique clifftop experience with some of the best sea views in Cyprus. To match the military-level precision and history, stay at the Amara Hotel in Limassol, which features a world-renowned Nobu restaurant and infinity pools that merge with the Mediterranean horizon.

Designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, Eléa is a strategic masterpiece characterized by its “strategic riddles” and numerous white-sand bunkers. The course winds through ancient carob and olive trees with the sea as a constant backdrop. To balance high-end golf with beachfront elegance, stay at the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel in Paphos; it’s just a 10-minute drive away and offers some of the best sunset views on the island.

As the name suggests, this Tony Jacklin-designed course is nestled in a deep valley surrounded by natural rock formations. It is often cited as the most “fun” course to play due to its relative protection from the wind and its scenic beauty. A perfect lodging choice is the Columbia Beach Resort in nearby Pissouri Bay, a stunning all-suite property built like a traditional Cypriot village that provides a peaceful, upscale retreat just 10 minutes from the course.

Located on the northern coast near Kyrenia, Korineum is a lush, green oasis carved out of a forest of pines and carobs at the foot of the Five Finger Mountains. It offers a totally different landscape compared to the Paphos courses. You should stay at the on-site Korineum Golf & Beach Resort, which offers a boutique hotel experience with a private beach club and a tranquil atmosphere far removed from the busier tourist hubs.

For those looking for a “true” local experience, Vikla offers a more rustic, 12-hole layout (often played as 18) set in the hills above Limassol. It is known for its friendly, community atmosphere and natural grass fairways. For a nearby luxury stay, the Four Seasons Hotel Limassol provides the ultimate in high-end service and a world-class spa to return to after a day in the rugged hills.

Situated near the capital, this course is a hidden gem primarily used by locals, offering a flat, easy-to-walk layout. It is a great choice for those combining business with golf. The best place to stay is the Landmark Nicosia, a historic and prestigous hotel in the heart of the city that has been the base for visiting dignitaries for decades.

Best time to play golf in Cyprus

Spring and autumn are absolutely ideal if you want perfect golfing conditions without the peak summer heat. March through May sees temperatures climbing from about 18 to 26 degrees, with wildflowers dotting the courses and everything feeling fresh after the winter rains. September through November reverses that pattern, cooling down from summer’s intensity to comfortable low twenties, and the sea stays warm enough for a post round swim well into October. Winter golf from December to February is genuinely pleasant, sitting around 15 to 18 degrees during the day, which makes Cyprus brilliant for that escape when UK courses are waterlogged or worse. You’ll pay less for accommodation during these months too, though Christmas and New Year do see a spike.

If you’re flexible, late October and early November offer outstanding value with temperatures still in the mid twenties and far fewer crowds fighting for tee times.

Frequently asked Cyprus golf break questions

Elea Golf Club consistently ranks as Cyprus’s finest course and one of the Mediterranean’s best. Nick Faldo designed this par 71 layout with strategic bunkering and undulating greens that reward thoughtful play over raw power, and the routing through natural valleys with sea views makes every hole memorable. Aphrodite Hills Golf Club brings European Tour pedigree, having hosted Challenge Tour events, with a Cabell Robinson design that features dramatic elevation changes and that famous signature par three playing over a ravine to a peninsula green.

Getting to Cyprus is straightforward with numerous direct flight options from UK airports. Paphos International Airport serves the western resort area where most golf courses are concentrated, with direct flights from London Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

Cyprus delivers some of Europe’s most reliable golfing weather, particularly outside the peak summer months. Winter from December through February sees daytime temperatures around 15 to 18 degrees celsius, which sounds modest but feels genuinely pleasant in the sunshine with minimal wind. You’ll occasionally get rain during these months, though it’s nothing like the persistent drizzle that plagues UK golf, more likely a brief shower that clears quickly.

Cyprus offers several advantages that set it apart from more established Mediterranean golf destinations. The year round playability stands out immediately, winter golf here is genuinely comfortable rather than just tolerable, with temperatures that let you leave the waterproofs at home. You’re also getting less crowded courses compared to Spain’s Costa del Sol or Portugal’s Algarve, particularly at shoulder season times when those destinations still see heavy traffic.
