A relaxed seafront base on Lanzarote’s east coast, with roomy self-catering apartments, a dozen pools and its own sheltered beach. Costa Teguise Golf, the island’s longest-established course, is a short drive inland, so you can play a morning round and be back by the sea for lunch.

Key Information
Sands Beach Resort sits at the northern end of Costa Teguise, right on the water, with its own sheltered lagoon beach and the seafront promenade running past the door. It’s a large, low-rise complex of around 368 apartments spread around 12 pools. It suits golfers who like space and the option to cook for themselves. Every studio and apartment has a full kitchen and a terrace or balcony. The beach-view one- and two-bedroom apartments are worth the upgrade if you’re travelling as a four.
The golf is a few minutes’ drive inland at Costa Teguise Golf, a John Harris design that opened in 1978. It runs along the lower slopes of an old volcano. More than 3,000 palm trees line the fairways, with black lava and cactus beyond them and the Atlantic in view from much of the course. It’s a par 72 with plenty of doglegs, so you’ll use most of the bag. It isn’t long by modern standards, but the wind makes up for that. The trade winds blow across Lanzarote most days, and a hole that played a wedge in the morning can need a mid-iron by mid-afternoon. The par-5 13th, played towards the sea, is the one most people remember. If you want a second course, Lanzarote Golf near Puerto del Carmen is the obvious add-on.
Back at the resort there’s a buffet restaurant, a couple of à la carte options, a pool bar and a sports bar. Costa Teguise’s bars and restaurants are about 15 minutes’ walk along the front, and Arrecife, the island’s capital, is a short taxi ride. On a rest day, César Manrique’s Jameos del Agua and the volcanic landscape of Timanfaya National Park are both easy day trips.

Costa Teguise Golf is kept in good order all year, and the main season runs from October to April. It suits mid and high handicappers from the yellow tees but gets serious from the back, with a slope rating of 147 from the black tees. There’s no course at the resort itself.
The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. This is a family-friendly resort with a kids’ club, mini disco and evening entertainment. It’s livelier during UK school holidays and noticeably quieter outside them, which is worth bearing in mind when you pick your dates.

The main draw is the location. Very few places on Lanzarote put you this close to the water. You can walk out of your apartment, past the pools and onto a sheltered beach with its own little island. The promenade runs right past, so a morning walk or an evening stroll into town takes no planning at all.
The second reason is space. These are proper apartments rather than hotel rooms, which works well for groups who want to share a beer on the balcony after a round or eat in some nights. There’s also more to do on non-golf days than at most hotels in Costa Teguise:
To be straight about it, the resort was built in the 1980s and parts of it show that. Returning guests are fond of the place and regularly praise the friendly staff and the setting. They also mention dated décor in some apartments, air conditioning that struggles in high summer, and Wi-Fi that isn’t always included. For a winter golf trip, when temperatures sit comfortably in the low twenties, the air conditioning is rarely an issue. If newer interiors matter to you, ask us about the superior beach-view apartments.
It’s a good fit for golfers who want a laid-back base by the sea with short drives to the course, and who care more about location and space than polish.
