The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi is a five-star beach resort on the Jumeirah coastline, set between Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah at the edge of Dubai Harbour. The cream stone building, with its columns and arched windows, has an older, more classic look than the glass towers around it, and gardens run from the back of the hotel down to a 500-metre private beach. The pace here is slow and easy, which suits golf groups, couples and families who want a week by the sea as much as a week on the course.

The 294 rooms and suites were refurbished in 2022 in a light, Mediterranean style, and most have views of the Gulf and the Palm or the Marina skyline. Space is a strong point, as are the Westin Heavenly Beds and marble bathrooms, and many rooms come with a balcony. Guests in Club rooms also get the 8th-floor lounge for breakfast and evening drinks.

Golf is close at hand. Emirates Golf Club is around five minutes by car, The Montgomerie is just beyond it, and Jumeirah Golf Estates is a short drive further. Back at the hotel there are ten restaurants, a spa, three pools and the Jungle Bay waterpark, which is free for guests. The Mina Seyahi tram stop is nearby for the Marina and JBR, and taxis cover the rest of the city.

Expect a stay that’s easy from the start. Service is one of the Westin’s strengths, with staff at the pool, beach and restaurants who are quick, friendly and good with groups. Rooms are spacious and quiet, and the 2022 refurbishment has left them feeling fresh, with comfortable beds and sea or skyline views doing much of the work. The overall mood is polished but relaxed, closer to a traditional beach resort than a city hotel.

Where the Westin stands out is in how much there is on site. Ten restaurants cover Italian, Spanish, Pan-Asian and steak, with more next door at Le Méridien, and Barasti beach bar is a short walk along the sand for anyone after a livelier evening. Days tend to revolve around the beach and the three pools, with the Heavenly Spa and Five Iron’s golf simulators for a change of pace. Families are well looked after with a kids’ club and the free Jungle Bay waterpark, so the pools can get busy at weekends and in school holidays. Guests after a quieter spot can head to the lap pool, Mare by Bussola (16 and over) or the Club lounge.
