Desert Golf on the Red Sea

The Cascades Golf Resort, Spa & Thalasso sits at Soma Bay, around 45 minutes south of Hurghada Airport. It’s a purpose-built golf resort with a clear focus on the course, making it a strong option for UK golfers wanting reliable conditions and straightforward travel.

The championship course was designed by Gary Player and plays across desert terrain with the Red Sea visible from several holes. Fairways are generous, but positioning matters, miss the wrong side and the desert quickly comes into play. Greens are fast and true, and the layout offers a good balance of challenge and enjoyment for mid- to low-handicap players, without being overly punishing.

The resort itself is calm and comfortable rather than flashy. Rooms are spacious, most with sea or course views, and everything is laid out to make golf days easy. Dining is solid and varied, with a main buffet restaurant and à la carte options, plus relaxed bars for post-round drinks. Away from golf, the Thalasso spa is one of the largest in the region, and the Red Sea setting means snorkelling, diving, and boat trips are all close by. Golf conditions at Somabay are consistently good, with firm fairways and well-maintained greens throughout the year. The course suits confident club golfers upwards, but multiple tee options keep it playable for higher handicaps. Service is efficient and friendly, without being overbearing, and everything runs to schedule, tee times, transfers, and dining are all well organised.

There is one 18-hole championship course on site, plus a driving range and practice areas. The resort has hosted professional and high-level amateur events, which shows in both the setup and course standards. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and golf-focused, with little outside distraction, making it ideal for dedicated golf breaks or small groups.
