Golf in the Atlas Mountains

At 1,650 metres in the Central Middle Atlas, the architecture is Alpine, the winters bring snow, and the cedar forests covering the surrounding mountains bear no resemblance to anything most visitors associate with Morocco. Most Morocco golf trips head to the Atlantic coast or the Marrakech region. Michlifen is a different proposition entirely.

The golf is the headline. Michlifen Golf & Country Club, opened in 2018, is the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course in North Africa. A par 72 stretching 7,325 yards from the black championship tees – and 6,671 yards from the whites – it sits at an altitude where cool-season grasses replace the warm-season varieties found everywhere else in Morocco. Three restaurants, a 3,500 m² spa, and one of the most distinctive locations on the continent complete a resort that genuinely earns the word exceptional.

Key Information

The course plays best between May and October. Michlifen’s altitude keeps temperatures pleasant even when the rest of Morocco is at its hottest, which makes summer rounds here far more comfortable than at lowland courses. Winter brings snow and closes the course, but opens up the slopes at nearby Michlifen Ski Station – a different kind of trip entirely for those inclined.
