Le Golf National sits around 40 minutes southwest of central Paris and is best known for the Albatros Course, one of Europe’s premier championship layouts. Designed by architects Hubert Chesneau and Robert Von Hagge, the course opened in 1990 and has hosted the French Open for decades, as well as the 2018 Ryder Cup.

The Albatros is a strategic, modern course with a strong stadium feel. Many holes are framed by mounding and natural amphitheatres, giving spectators excellent views during tournaments while adding a sense of scale when you’re playing. Water is a major feature throughout the layout, particularly across the closing stretch. The final four holes form one of Europe’s most memorable finishes, with lakes guarding approaches and greens that demand precise shot-making.

Fairways are generous enough from the tee but approach play is where the course really tests you. Greens are quick, subtly contoured, and well protected by bunkers and water hazards. Conditioning is typically excellent, reflecting its status as a national championship venue.
