Iconic Resort in Costa del Sol

La Cala Golf Resort sits inland from the coast, surrounded by rolling Andalusian hills and olive groves. It’s one of the largest golf resorts in Spain and feels it, plenty of room, wide fairways in places, and long views across the countryside. The three courses, Asia, America, and Europa, are all very different, which keeps a multi-round trip interesting. Expect elevation changes, manicured greens, and a fair but testing layout that rewards sensible course management.

The hotel is comfortable and modern, with rooms overlooking the courses or the surrounding hills. It’s geared towards golfers, so everything runs smoothly, from early breakfasts to post-round drinks. There is an excellent spa, a driving range and academy, and a few solid dining options for relaxed evenings without needing to head out.

La Cala feels peaceful and self-contained, but you’re not cut off. The beaches of the Cost a del Sol are about 25 minutes away, with Málaga and Marbella both easy day trips. Key Information

Golf at La Cala is well organised and consistent. The courses are in very good condition year-round, with fast greens and tidy fairways. It’s best suited to mid to low handicappers, but higher handicaps will still enjoy it if they play the right tees. Service around the resort is friendly and efficient, very much geared towards golf travellers. With three 18 hole courses on site, getting tee times is straightforward and you can mix things up across your stay.

La Cala has also hosted European Tour Qualifying School stages, which gives a good idea of the standard. The atmosphere is relaxed rather than flashy, more about golf than nightlife, and everything you need is close at hand.

This year it’s was time to try Portugal. What a fantastic trip we had, it was seamless from start to finish. A great hotel, lovely food and the service was second to none. The courses were amazing. All in all another fantastic golf tour. Now we need to decide on the venue for next year with the added bonus of knowing Phil will sort us out wherever we choose.
