Dubai International Airport is about 32 km away, around 30 minutes by car, and transfers can be arranged through the hotel. From there, everything is close. The Montgomerie and Jumeirah Golf Estates, where the DP World Tour Championship is played on the Earth course, are a short drive, and most of Dubai’s other courses are within easy reach for a day’s golf. October to April is peak season, with warm, dry days and courses in top condition.

Service is a strong point. Guest reviews regularly praise the staff from check-in to check-out, and guests also mention being able to check in early, which helps after an overnight flight. The breakfast buffet at JW Kitchen is a highlight and sets up a morning tee time well.

Rooms face the marina or the city through floor-to-ceiling windows, and the marina side is the one to ask for. The fourth-floor infinity pool looks over the water, and the spa has 12 treatment rooms for a day off the course.

Dubai Marina Mall is through a door inside the hotel, Marina Walk is at the foot of the building, and JBR beach is about 15 minutes on foot. The tram is a 5-minute walk and the metro 12. Valet parking and the kids’ club are both free.

Rooms are bright and modern, some with balconies, and Executive rooms come with club lounge access. Groups and families can book connecting rooms to stay close together. The hotel has 200 rooms across 38 storeys, which makes it smaller than many Dubai five-stars, and it feels calmer inside than the busy marina outside would suggest. That starts in the lobby, which is laid out around a garden planted with fresh herbs. For food and drink, Harbours, Griffin Lounge, Le Kong and Wane by Somiya sit alongside the main restaurant, so most evenings can be spent in the building if that suits.

Days tend to follow an easy pattern. A different course is a short drive away each morning, with no changing hotels mid-trip. Evenings are spent on the marina, where restaurants and bars line the promenade and the towers light up after dark. Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa are about 20 minutes away for a day off the course.

Why Stay at the JW Marriott Hotel Marina?

JW Marriott Hotel Marina works for golfers because it pairs four very different courses with a base that needs no planning once the clubs are away. Each course asks for something else. At Arabian Ranches the fairways are framed by open desert, and a wayward drive is played from the sand. Dubai Hills feels closer to parkland, with Downtown’s towers on the horizon for most of the round. The Montgomerie plays more like a links, with big, rolling greens and water on a good number of holes. The Els Club rewards thinking over power, and the tightly mown run-offs around its greens leave a choice between chipping, bumping and putting. Three or four of these in one week show most of what golf in Dubai has to offer.

Off the course, the marina does the work. Marina Walk, a wide spread of restaurants and the beach at JBR can all be reached on foot, and Dubai Marina Mall is connected to the hotel itself. Not every golf hotel in Dubai can say that. The tram stop is five minutes away, and the Palm is a short taxi ride for a change of scene.

It is worth knowing what the hotel is not. There is no course or practice ground on site, so every round starts with a transfer. The beach is a walk away, not at the foot of the building. The marina is also a busy, high-rise district, and golfers after quiet may be happier at a resort further out. For groups who want strong courses in the day and a lively, easy base at night, it fits very well.
