The course was originally laid out by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1994 as Marbella Golf Country Club. In November 2025 it became Higueron Marbella Golf Resort under Higueron Developments, with Robert Trent Jones Jr. now leading a phased redesign that builds on his father’s legacy rather than tearing it up. The par-72 layout runs around 6,000 metres and gives you two distinctly different nines. The front side is tight and technical – narrower fairways winding through olive groves, with raised greens, well-placed bunkers and a handful of lakes that turn club selection into a real decision. The back nine opens up: holes get longer, corridors widen, and you can pull the driver out without wincing.

The signature hole is the par-5 6th, also the hardest on the card. A two-tier fairway tempts you to bomb one down the lower level, but the smart play is up the right-hand upper deck. From there, you’ll see the green and the water hazards guarding the approach. Tee shots down the lower fairway leave a blind second over trees and water you can’t see until it’s too late.
Conditioning is generally good and pace runs around four to four-and-a-half hours. Buggies are standard given the rolling terrain. It sits five minutes from central Marbella and half an hour from Málaga Airport – handy for a multi-course Costa del Sol trip.
