Desert Springs Resort stands out straight away for one reason—it doesn’t feel like typical Spain. Set in the Almería region, this is Europe’s only true desert-style course, inspired by layouts you’d normally associate with Arizona. The Indiana Course is the centrepiece, with dry riverbeds, rocky outcrops, and carefully shaped fairways cutting through a striking, arid landscape.

The layout itself is playable but interesting. Fairways are generally generous, but positioning matters, especially around the greens where bunkering and run-offs come into play. It’s not overly long, but the design keeps you thinking, making it enjoyable for a wide range of handicaps without feeling too easy.

Off the course, the resort has a low-key, residential feel. Accommodation is mainly villas and apartments rather than a traditional hotel setup, giving it a bit more space and flexibility—ideal for groups. There’s a clubhouse with a good restaurant and terrace, plus a smaller number of leisure facilities including a pool and practice areas.

Location-wise, it’s quieter than the Costa del Sol, which adds to the appeal if you want a more relaxed, uncrowded trip. Coastal towns and beaches are within a short drive if you want to mix in something away from the course.
