Key Information
Croatia's PGA National on the Adriatic Coast
Anantara Adriatic Istria Resort sits at Savudrija, on the western tip of the Istrian peninsula, around 300 metres from the Adriatic and a short walk from the course. The course itself – Golf Adriatic, designated PGA National Croatia in 2023 – was the first 18-hole layout in Istria and remains the draw for most visiting golfers. Designed by Austrian architects Diethard Fahrenleitner and Barbara Eisserer, winners of the Austrian Golf Art Landscape Award, it’s a par-72 parkland course measuring 6,360 metres, laid out across vineyards, olive groves and gentle coastal terrain. The hole names – Vineyard, Seaview, Olive Tree, Romanic Church – tell you what you’re playing through. Wind off the sea adds bite, and the bunkering rewards thinking over brute distance. It’s open year-round.
Off the course, the 186-key resort runs three restaurants – including the beachfront Kanova for Istrian and Mediterranean fine dining, plus Pizzeria Olea – alongside four bars, the 3,000 sqm Carolea Spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and a private serviced beach. Rooms face either countryside or sea, with views stretching to Slovenia, Italy and the Alps on a clear day. Istria is a proper food region (truffles, prosciutto, Malvazija whites, olive oil), and you’re well-placed for day trips: Piran across the Slovenian border, Rovinj down the coast, and the Roman amphitheatre at Pula roughly an hour’s drive south.

Key Information
Expect a polished, low-key operation rather than anything flashy. The course is well-conditioned and walkable, suited to mid-handicappers and better – a valid handicap certificate is required, with limits of 36 (men) and 45 (women) at weekends, looser midweek. As a PGA National, joining the likes of The Belfry and Gleneagles, it’s held to a defined standard, and play is led by a PGA-member course manager. There’s only one course on site, so a stay here is about quality rather than course-hopping.
Tournaments are regularly hosted, including the Croatian Mid Amateur Championship in April 2024. Service across the resort is attentive without being intrusive, and with direct beach access, a substantial spa and several restaurants, non-golfing partners are well catered for.

Why Stay at Hotel Atos Prague?
Golfers come here for a rare mix of coastal scenery, thoughtful design, and relaxed resort comfort. Golf Adriatic, now PGA National Croatia, has a strong sense of place, with holes moving through olive trees, vineyards, and soft Istrian terrain close to the sea. It’s not a course that simply asks for length. You’ll need placement, patience, and a little imagination when the wind picks up. After the round, the resort makes the rest easy, with beach time, serious spa facilities, and regional dining that feels genuinely local. It’s a refined choice for golfers who like their trips unhurried.
