Hillside Calm, Championship Golf Next Door

Campus La Mola sits in the countryside just outside Terrassa, about 20km north-west of Barcelona. It borders the natural park, so the setting is green and peaceful. For golfers, the big draw is the neighbour: Real Club de Golf El Prat, one of Spain’s most respected clubs, is right next door.

The hotel is modern and eco-minded. It was built in 2008 with clean lines, large windows and solar panels, and inside it’s calm and uncluttered rather than plush. The lobby and restaurant have been refurbished and are brighter and more colourful than the rest of the building.

It’s run by Châteauform, a company that specialises in corporate retreats. You’ll often share the hotel with business groups, which gives it a relaxed, well-organised feel. That works well for a golf trip.

There are 186 rooms, including 22 suites, and many have views over the gardens, the pool or the hills. For downtime, there are indoor and outdoor pools, a spa with a hot tub and a gym. Bike hire is available for exploring the natural park. Food is served in the main restaurant and a tapas-style bar.

This is a practical, comfortable stay rather than a luxury one. Rooms come with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a safe and a private bathroom, and many have large windows looking out over the gardens or the hills. The suites give you extra space, which is handy for longer stays or couples.

  • Barcelona El Prat Airport: about 38km, or 35 to 40 minutes by car
  • Barcelona city centre: around 25 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic
  • Terrassa town centre: a short drive of a few miles
  • Nearest beach: around 45 minutes by car, so this isn’t a beach hotel

Real Club de Golf El Prat has 45 holes designed by Greg Norman, split into five nine-hole loops. They make up the Pink, Yellow and Green courses, and the Pink is generally considered the pick. The club has hosted the Spanish Open ten times, most recently in 2015. There’s also a 300-metre driving range where you hit off grass tees. The clubhouse is a couple of minutes from the hotel by buggy.
