Key Information

Seafront Comfort, Town on the Doorstep

If you’ve been to Fuengirola before, you might remember this place as Hotel Las Pirámides. It reopened as the Occidental Fuengirola after a full renovation, and the change has been significant. The rooms, public areas and gym have all been modernised, and returning guests regularly say it feels like a different hotel.

It sits at the quieter western end of town, about 50 metres from the beach and a short stroll from the Paseo Marítimo. The centre is roughly ten minutes away on foot, so you can walk to bars and restaurants in the evening without needing a taxi. Bioparc Fuengirola, Sohail Castle and the Miramar shopping centre are all within walking distance too.

On-site facilities include:

  • Three places to eat and drink: a buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner, a snack bar and a lobby bar.
  • The Breeze area: a poolside bar serving food for most of the day, and a good spot for a cold pint after your round.
  • Two pools: a large outdoor pool with plenty of loungers, plus a smaller heated pool for cooler months.
  • Fitness room and steam room: a well-equipped gym, plus a steam room for tired legs.

Service is the thing guests mention most. Reception staff are consistently described as helpful, and housekeeping keeps the place spotless. For golfers, the location is the real draw. Courses in Mijas, Marbella and Benalmádena are all within easy reach, and you’re close enough to town to enjoy the evenings.

Key Information

Rooms are a strong point. Expect modern décor, comfortable beds, walk-in showers and blackout curtains, which help after a long day in the sun. Superior Sea View rooms and Family Junior Suites are worth the upgrade if you want to sit out on the balcony with a view of the water. Air conditioning and a minibar come as standard, though the in-room safe carries a small extra charge.

The beach is just across the road, and the promenade runs east into the centre and west towards the castle. Supermarkets, restaurants and bars are all close by.

The essentials:

  • Málaga Airport: around 27km, or a 25 to 30-minute drive. The local train also runs from the airport to Fuengirola, and the station is about 15 minutes’ walk from the hotel.
  • Beach: about 50 metres away, just across the promenade.
  • Town centre: roughly a ten-minute walk.
  • Check-in and check-out: check-in is from 2pm, and check-out is at noon. If your room isn’t ready, you can leave your bags with reception.
  • Late flights: luggage storage and shower access in the gym let you use the hotel on departure day. You’ll need to book a shower slot.
  • Parking: available on-site for a daily fee.
  • Breakfast: the buffet gets very good feedback, but it isn’t always included in the room rate, so check what your package covers.

Why Stay at the Occidental Fuengirola?

The main reason is balance. You get a modern four-star hotel with a seafront setting, but you’re also a short walk from one of the Costa del Sol’s liveliest towns. Most golf hotels in the area make you choose between being on a course or being near a town. Here, you get the town, and the courses are a short drive away.

Cleanliness and service come up again and again in reviews. Guests often say the hotel is spotless, and the reception team gets frequent praise for sorting out room requests quickly. Some reviewers say this is one of the best four-star hotels they’ve stayed in in Spain.

The pool area is a big part of the appeal. It’s well kept, catches a sea breeze, and the bar beside it makes it an easy place to finish the day. The gym is better than you’d expect for a hotel of this type, which suits anyone who likes to warm up before a round.
