Gleneagles
Gleneagles combines championship golf, luxury country-house style and a huge range of facilities, all set in Perthshire countryside with easy rail and road links from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Key Information
Scottish Golf, Done Properly
Gleneagles sits in open Perthshire countryside, around an hour from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, yet once you’re on the estate it feels completely self-contained. This is a large, high-end resort, but it still has the feel of a traditional Scottish country house, with big lounges, fireplaces, and views over rolling hills rather than a modern, purpose-built complex.
Golf is a major draw, with three championship courses on site. The PGA Centenary Course is the most famous, having hosted the 2014 Ryder Cup, while the King’s and Queen’s Courses offer more classic, traditional layouts with plenty of character and variety. Together, they give you a mix of modern championship golf and old-school design, so it suits groups who want different styles of round across a stay.
Rooms are polished and comfortable, with a proper five-star feel without being over-the-top. Dining is a strong point, from relaxed brasserie-style options to fine dining, and the non-golf facilities are extensive: spa, pool, gym, country pursuits, and outdoor activities. It works just as well for couples or mixed groups as it does for dedicated golf trips.

Key Information
Expect excellent course conditioning, slick organisation, and service that’s used to hosting golfers from all over the world. With three courses on site, tee times are generally well managed, but it still feels like a special-occasion venue rather than somewhere you rush around. The PGA Centenary has a big-event feel, while the King’s and Queen’s are more traditional and scenic. The atmosphere across the resort is smart but relaxed, jackets aren’t required at breakfast, but it still feels premium.
Everything is close together once you’re on site, and staff are used to helping with bags, transfers between courses, and dinner bookings. Major events held here include the Ryder Cup, which adds to the sense of pedigree.

Why Golfers Keep Coming Back to Gleneagles
What keeps golfers returning is the balance. You get genuine championship pedigree alongside courses that reward feel, imagination, and local knowledge. Few resorts offer this kind of variety without ever leaving the property. Days start with a proper sense of occasion and end somewhere comfortable, usually by a fire or over a relaxed meal. It’s a place where groups can play serious golf without feeling boxed into a single style of round. Add in the service, the setting, and the history tied to events like the Ryder Cup, and it’s easy to see why stays here tend to turn into repeat visits rather than one off trips.
