Find your ideal golf holiday in Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a great choice for a winter sun golf break, with warm weather all year, two 18-hole courses and volcanic scenery you won’t find anywhere else in Europe. As the most easterly of the Canary Islands, it’s also one of the quickest to reach, with flights from the UK taking around four hours. The airport is close to the main resorts, so you can be on the first tee soon after landing.
The two main courses offer very different rounds. Costa Teguise Golf, a John Harris design from 1978, is the island’s original course, laid out on the lower slopes of an old volcano with more than 3,500 palm trees lining the fairways. Lanzarote Golf, designed by Ron Kirby, sits on the hillside above Puerto del Carmen and is less than ten minutes from the airport, with fairways weaving between lava rock and old stone walls.
For your base, Puerto del Carmen is the liveliest resort, Costa Teguise is calmer and closest to its own course, and Playa Blanca in the south is the upmarket choice, with good beaches and a marina. There are plenty of all inclusive options across the island, which makes budgeting simple for groups and families.

Whether you’re after a value stay or a five-star resort, browse our best current Lanzarote deals and find the right hotel for your next golf break.

Lanzarote’s golf has built a strong following among UK golfers, and it’s easy to see why. Costa Teguise Golf has been a favourite with visiting golfers since the late 1970s and still ranks as the island’s top course, with palm-lined fairways and Atlantic views on the lower slopes of an old volcano. Lanzarote Golf above Puerto del Carmen offers something completely different, with holes running between lava fields and old stone walls for a round that feels unlike anything else in Europe.
Mallorca is the Mediterranean’s most popular island and a destination that delivers equally well on and off the course. A number of well-designed courses wind through stunning scenery, from pine-covered hills to coastal cliffs, offering a memorable setting for any golfer. Beyond the fairways, Mallorca has it all: turquoise coves, charming hilltop villages, world-class dining and a sophisticated holiday atmosphere that keeps travellers coming back year after year.

Tenerife is the biggest of the Canary Islands and has the widest choice of golf. The south coast is home to a cluster of top courses, including Abama and Golf del Sur, while Buenavista in the north offers cliff-top holes with views out to sea. Off the course, Mount Teide, whale watching trips and a busy food scene give you plenty to do on your days off.

Fuerteventura is the place to go for a laid-back golf break with some of the best beaches in the Canaries. The island’s three courses are spread along the east coast, with wide fairways, desert landscapes and the Atlantic never far from view. It’s a quieter, more relaxed option, with the sand dunes of Corralejo, watersports and long, empty beaches to fill your days off the course.

Gran Canaria offers more variety than you’d expect from one island. You can play everything from Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, the oldest club in Spain, to modern resort courses in the sunny south around Maspalomas and Meloneras. Between rounds, there are the Maspalomas dunes, lively beach towns, and the historic old quarter of Las Palmas to explore.

Lanzarote is one of the driest places in Europe. It gets around 100mm of rain a year, mostly between October and April, so washed-out rounds are rare in any month.
Winter, from December to February, brings daytime highs of 21 to 22 degrees. It’s comfortable for golf and the main draw for UK players, though it’s also when courses and hotels are busiest. March to May warms up to 23 to 25 degrees with very little rain, and it’s often the best mix of conditions and value. October and November are similar, with highs of 24 to 27 degrees and the sea at its warmest.
Summer is hot, with July and August reaching 28 to 29 degrees. Early tee times are the way to go in those months, and prices tend to drop.
The wind is the one thing to plan for. The north-east trade winds blow for most of the year, usually picking up in the afternoon, and Lanzarote is flatter and more exposed than the other islands. Expect to club up or down by a couple of clubs on open holes. Now and then, a hot, dry wind from Africa known as the calima brings Saharan dust and a short spike in temperature, but it rarely lasts more than a few days.
