1. Las Colinas Golf Course

Situated just south of Alicante in a popular exclusive gated residential community in Spain, Las Colinas is the ideal course for anyone looking to kick back and relax away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

Las Colinas is one of the most beautiful championship golf courses in Alicante, designed by the notorious American golf course architect, Cabell B. Robinson, and managed by Troon Golf Company. Robinson is also known for a selection of other esteemed courses, including La Reserva and Finca Cortesin, each consistently ranked in the top courses in Spain and Europe.

Set among fabulous lemon and orange groves, the 18-hole course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural landscape, weaving through impressive rolling hills and valleys, and looking out towards the magnificent Mediterranean Sea – a true golfer’s paradise!

Suitable for players of all levels, Las Colinas boasts wide fairways and a variety of holes, from a pleasant par 3 over 100 metres to par 5 across 534 metres. The course also features six lakes, which not only look spectacular but add an extra level of difficulty, especially towards the end of the course.

There are also a number of training facilities available on-site. Las Colinas Golf Academy offers a natural grass hitting area, putting green, short game area and video swing analysis technology, as well as private and group coaching sessions.

2. Bonalba Golf Course

Nestled in the picturesque Bonalba mountains, just north of Alicante, is the Bonalba championship golf course. Bonalba Golf Course was designed by Spanish golf architect Ramon Espinosa with a stunning parkland layout, surrounded by luscious Mediterranean vegetation and greenery, and offers majestic mountainous and sea views.

Bonalba serves up a challenging game with mature pine and palm trees, well-guarded bunkers and five large lake hazards along the course, as well as a strong breeze coming into play for the closing holes. Bonalba is the perfect option for ameteur golfers looking for a challenging course, while also providing a testing game for pros, too.

If you’re looking to brush up on your skills, Bonalba is home to a range of fantastic training facilities. Check out the on-site driving range, practice area, putting and pitching green and practice bunker before you hit the course.

3. La Finca Golf Course

La Finca is one of the most popular golf courses in Alicante, and is ranked in the top 50 golf courses in Spain. Located in South Alicante, La Finca is engulfed in natural beauty and wildlife, spread out among olive trees, palms, several lakes and beds of reeds with views over the Escotera mountains. You may even spot a few ducks and egrets, if it’s the right time of the year.

Opening its doors in 2002, La Finca is a modern course designed by Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo, also known as the ‘Picasso of Golf’, which features masterful design and a variety of challenging holes. The contemporary course is characterised by its wide fairways, undulating greens and two signature holes: the 7th, shaped like an English bowls green, and the 14th, resembling the shape of a Chinese wok.

La Finca has played host to a fair share of prestigious tournaments, including the Valencian Community professional circuit, Spanish Junior Championship, Junior European Championship and the Audi Class finals. Don’t let this hold you back! La Finca has a few forward tee and back tee positions, making it a pleasant course for golfers of all levels.

La Finca’s training facilities include an excellent driving range, chipping area, putting green and practice bunkers, giving you the chance to warm up before stepping onto the course.

4. Villamartin Golf Course

Established in 1972, Villamartin is one of the most established golf courses in Alicante, and the perfect spot for anyone looking for international-quality golf. In fact, Villamartin has hosted a number of esteemed tournaments, such as the qualifying of the European circuit in 1997and 1994 Mediterranean Open, and has welcomed some of the world’s golf stars, including the likes of Ian Woosnan, Severiano Ballesteros and José María Olazábal. As such, Villamartin is a hit with golfers from all across Europe.

This historical course was designed by American architect Robert Dean Puttman in 1972. It features an opening left dog leg par 5, followed by narrow olive tree-lined fairways; however, it’s best known for its 14th and 17th holes. The former presents players with a tricky par 5, one of the best in Spain, featuring a narrow gorge and ditch. The latter is one of the most challenging short holes in Europe (220 metres, par 3), that requires players to cross a deep ravine before making it to a generous, tiered green.

Conveniently located just a mile from the coast and a short trip to Torrevieja and Murcia airport, Villamartin is a must-visit on your next trip to Alicante!

5. Las Ramblas Golf Course

Located on the southern coast of Spain, Las Ramblas is an excellent golf course near Alicante that has been consistently voted in the top ten golf courses in South East Spain. Las Ramblas is one of three courses belonging to La Finca Golf, yet offers a completely different experience to the others.

Just like La Finca, Las Ramblas was designed by Pepe Gancedo, one of the most imaginative golf designers in the world, who took this stunning piece of Mediterranean land and transformed it into a riveting golf experience.

This 18-hole, par 72 course was built among tall pines and features several natural water hazards, hillocks, sharp dog legs, deep ravines and canyons. Not to mention, players must also battle against the unforgiving winds! While the course boasts generous greens, the quick pace demands a high level of control. Watch out for the 7th hole, which features a tricky dogleg across a ravine, followed by an abrupt right to steep green, which is sure to test even the most experienced players.
